The Warren County R-III School Board held their monthly meeting last Thursday. This meeting was special as they finalized details on the exterior look of the new elementary school expected to come in January 2027. 

The board discussed and debated three different options for about 20 minutes. All three options had a cherry red brick. The only thing that was different was the roof colors.

Option one was a sandstone color roof, option two was a medium bronze roof and option three was a surrey beige roof.

After it seemingly looked like the board would choose the surrey beige roof, they ultimately decided to go with medium bronze. 

“This was a big step. We can get drawings and things ready to go,” Superintendent Gregg Klinginsmith said. “I’m glad they took their time and weighed in.”

The board had previously discussed a potential green or blue roof but after research, looking at samples and seeing other options on existing buildings, they made the choice to go with a tan and brown look.

This was decided at their work session that took place on May 23. 

All members of the board seemed to be pleased with the medium bronze roof. They made sure they chose carefully while looking at physical samples to see what matched and what would be sustainable for the longest amount of time. 

“I was thankful that they made a selection and we can go forward with the process,” Klinginsmith said. “The building’s going to look great and it’s going to be something people can be proud of for a long time.”

The next step is to take their finalized choices to planning and zoning in the city. This decision has also kept the district on track for their timeline of finishing the school in January 2027.
