NECAC names new Warren County Service Coordinator

Posted

Angie Brunson is a longtime member of the Warrenton community and as of May 15, she is the new Warren County Service Coordinator for the North East Community Action Corporation. Brunson will be working with other local agencies to connect those struggling with expenses like housing with the resources they need.

“I want to be the liaison between everybody,” Brunson said.

NECAC is a local non-profit that provides connections to social services for residents in 12 northeastern Missouri counties including Warren County.

According to its website, NECAC’S mission “is to assist the disadvantaged within our service area in their efforts to rise above poverty by providing needed services to enable each individual to function at his or her own improved financial, physical, mental and social level.”

Brunson said they are able to provide a variety of services and different forms of assistance for residents in need including with expenses related to food, energy and most importantly, housing.

“If you need food, we’ve got food pantries that we can recommend you go to, if you need housing assistance, we have two counselors here who will help with that,” Brunson said.

Brunson is a graduate of Lindenwood University in St. Charles and has made a career in customer service. She has also worked as a substitute teacher here in Warrenton.

When she saw the job posting on Indeed she saw an opportunity to help her community.

“I live and breathe Warren County, both my kids graduated here, my son still lives here,” Brunson said.

Among her goals as she steps into her new role are to increase cooperation with her counterparts at the agencies in nearby counties like St. Charles, Lincoln and Montgomery. She also saw homelessness in the area as one of the most important issues to tackle.

While she wants to make her mark on the community with NECAC, she acknowledged that she is still learning the position and has been very busy getting a handle on all of her new responsibilities.

“I’m just trying to put one foot in front of the other, trying to figure everything out,” Brunson said. “I want to be able to say when people come in, ‘I have the connections for them.’”

For now she will be learning the ins and outs of her new position as she settles in. From there she can set her sights on more lofty goals.

“I’m just trying to learn this position, and try to give it a good name,” Brunson said. “I want people to say ‘NECAC, they can help you,’ that’s my goal.”
